“We have owned golden retrievers for the past 43 years, and since the early 70’s have competed in retrieving, obedience and agility at the highest level.  We have selectively bred occasional litters with the intention of retaining the gundog’s natural ability and its will to please and work with its owner.

Knowing the importance of ensuring that puppy buyers are given a sound knowledge of all aspects of puppy training and ongoing teamwork we give a guide to prospective buyers, and realising the importance of keeping up-to-date with the newest methods of puppy training and socialisation, we attended Carolyn Read’s TAP time puppy classes, with our 8 week old puppy, and also agreed to assess her book ‘The Ultimate Puppy Owner’s Guide to Rearing, Training and Loving your Pet for Life”.

Week 1 – our pup was very unsure and ready to defend himself against allcomers, but by the end of the session was playing happily with a variety of puppies.  After that he couldn’t wait to get there and interact with his new found friends. The positive reinforcement activities were enjoyed by all handlers and pups, and the foundation social skills learnt should ensure an excellent grounding, and lead to a great partnership between dog and owner.

The book has been well researched and new puppy buyers would find the information easily read and invaluable in training – a must to have on-hand when problems occur.  As long-time dog owners who think we have the answer to most  situations, and are inclined to forego some of the foundation training – sometimes to the confusion of the dogs – we found we had forgotten lots of the basics, so again the book is a great reference to remind us that the new puppy doesn’t come complete with obedience qualifications!  The book also includes health, grooming, ongoing training programmes, and important information on dog ownership and responsibilities – a great package for every dog owner.”

“Carolyn’s puppy school has helped us tremendously on understanding our puppy.  We were able to bring our whole family which was good for our 3 girls to see first hand how to handle the puppy.  It is so important for the whole family to be on the same page when teaching your puppy.  Puppies love to bite and chew and all the tips and tricks were invaluable to us to help us enjoy our puppy.  The classes are small and it is fantatic that your puppy interacts with other dogs.  You also get to understand how to handle your puppy around other dogs and strangers.”

“We loved the time we spent at Train A Pup Time, both for our daughter to spend time with other dogs and for us to learn how to teach Simba the basics for obedience and training.  It has helped immensely with our personal training at home as a family with Simba.  Thanks so much!”

“Train A Pup Time has been really helpful with teaching our pup attention techniques as well as ‘leaving things’ she should not take.  This class has been very beneficial and I strongly recommend it to all puppy owners.  Puppy socialisation was also a great part of this class.”

“The opportunity to learn some of the basic commands while Toby was young was terrific.  Carolyn has a very good way with dogs (and their owners) and was able to provide a very personalized service, within a group environment.  I would definitely recommend Carolyn to others.”

“As a show person, we were instructed never to teach basic obedience to our pups such as sitting.  When we were told about the classes by fellow show dog friends & breeders we were extremely sceptical at first. After 5 weeks we are very impressed.

It will affect our show training.

We took two of our home bred puppies (Anne & Cardhu) that are going to be show dogs along to give the lessons a try. Anne & Cardhu have benefited tremendously & now at 12 weeks can sit, wait until instructed they are allowed to eat their food, drop, stand, come & we all enjoy practicing their new skills. They no longer mouth you, a relief as I know Matilda who is 17 months will not be bitten by the puppies.”

We will recommend these classes with Carolyn to all our puppy buyers in Western Australia & our only regret is that we did not know about these classes earlier as our first home bred singleton puppy  would have really benefited by the stimulation, socialisation & manners taught by Carolyn.

Thank you again Carolyn!”

“Steve, Clem and myself enjoyed bringing our American Staffordshire Terriers, Riot, Cruze and Vogue to the friendly well run classes.  The mixture of breeds makes socialiasation much easier at the park and the show ring.  Our show dogs are well behaved both at home and when attending shows.  This has been highlighted to us ringside.  We look forward to continuing our classes with the Southern River Obedience Club and further litters we breed will all be signed up for your classes.”

“Ollie and I had a very enjoyable experience at Train A Pup Time.  The safe, secure area was great to get the puppies to socialise with each other off lead, and the training advice was very helpful.  Carolyn is very caring, the pups love her,  and the advice received during and after classes was so helpful.  Thanks Carolyn!”

“I have been breeding Golden Retrievers for 20 years. I send my puppies home with a folder on diet, training etc. I know Carolyn and she has a great affinity with puppies and older dogs to. When she told me about the manual she had spent a lot of time working on I decided to buy a copy.

This manual is fantastic and I am now delighted to be able to send my pups home with a manual that covers everything a new owner should know. I recommend it to breeders and even people who have a new puppy & want to learn all they can about training etc.”

Lillian Robinson, Forrestfield, Western Australia
