PUPPY  MANNERS  PARTIES  ARE  HERE!

  • Have you just completed puppy pre-school classes and want to learn how to train your puppy some manners and puppy obedience?
  • Is there a lack of dog training classes in your area or do the dog clubs and training facilities that are available clash with your other commitments making it impossible to attend?

If this is the case you might want to consider hosting a

PUPPY  MANNERS  PARTY!

Sometimes it can be a little overwhelming when you have a just had your puppy for a short while and it can be difficult to know where to start the obedience training.  You want to get it right but the puppy is also trying to fit in the only way he or she knows how.  How do you become an effective pack leader and what is the best way you can train your puppy to have manners and be obedient?

A Puppy Manners Party is conducted in a small group in your home or you may prefer to choose having a one-on-one private puppy manners and puppy obedience consultation.  So you don’t know anyone else with a puppy?  The you might like to think about arranging a party with some of the other puppy owners who attended puppy pre-school at the same time as you did.

With our Puppy Manners Party service we come out to your home and spend a couple of hours showing you how to train your puppies to have good manners and some puppy obedience around the house as well as out and about.  These parties can be tailored to each person’s individual needs so you tell us the things that are important for you to know and specific behaviours that you want to train your puppy to do and these will be covered during the party.   We can not only explain and show you how to maximise your puppy’s learning but help you to understand how to overcome any puppy behaviours that could potentially become a problem.

Each person can bring along their own particular questions and specific puppy behaviour requirements (different breeds of dogs are bred for different purposes and therefore each puppy may have different issues to be managed) and these can be covered during the party session.  Not only do you get to learn how to train your puppy in pet dog manners and basic obedience, your puppy also gets to continue the socialisation skills with the other puppies which is equally important.  Training exercises can be interspersed with short off leash play sessions as long as the environment is safe to allow puppies off leash to play and if that is acceptable to the owner of the property.

The Puppy Manners Party can be booked as a one-off session of approximately two hours or they can be booked by weekly sessions, as many as you feel is necessary.  The more sessions you have the more you will learn about effective pack leadership and training your puppy for the manners and obedience that you want.  The parties can be held weekends, weekdays or evenings at a time that is suitable to you, so you won’t have to juggle your time to fit in with a dog training class.

Why Is It Important For Me To Train My Puppy To Have Good Manners and Basic Puppy Obedience?

The earlier you start training your puppy to have good manners and basic puppy obedience, the better.  Puppies brains are like sponges – they soak everything up and can learn quickly if trained in the right way.  Dog behaviour is established from a very early age and once ingrained it then becomes a habit.  If that behaviour is not what you want then it becomes necessary to untrain it using behaviour modification methods.  This can take time to undo what has already been learnt and established.

By training your puppy immediately you are able to train the puppy for the behaviour you want and it means that you don’t have to undo unwanted and established behaviours.  Good manners make life a lot easier for everyone involved with the dog.  As people love children who are respectful, well-mannered and polite so they also love a dog who is respectful, well-mannered and not a nuisance in the community.

The behaviour that puppies display are quite normal and natural – despite whether they are wanted or unwanted behaviours.  For example, let’s take the digging behaviour.  There are a few reasons why puppies dig and when you understand the why’s and wherefore’s this behaviour can then be modified to be appropriate so that you get what you want and the puppy gets what he wants.  It’s when these behaviours become ‘out of control’ that problems occur and frustrations set in and there is the time and cost involved in getting a ‘behaviourist’ to help you modify this unwanted behaviour.  Wouldn’t it be so much easier to get this right from the start so you don’t need to go through that anxiety?

What Will Be Covered In A Puppy Manners Party?

Our Puppy Manners Party will include whatever is required to your personal situation, however some of the main things that people want to know are:

  • How to stop puppies biting
  • How to train a puppy from jumping up on people
  • Toilet or potty training a puppy
  • How to train a puppy to come when called
  • How to calm a puppy down when he or she gets too excited
  • How to train a puppy to sit nicely at the door or gate
  • How to train a puppy to have good manners around food
  • How to train a puppy to walk nicely on a leash

These are just a few of the things that it is important to establish rules around from early on, otherwise you end up with problems down the track.  There will be many others.  Knowing how to train your puppy effectively with kindness and  positive reinforcement is a far more effective method.

Is There A Minimum Or Maximum Number Puppies Allowed In One Session?

There is no minimum number of puppies allowed to join, however if you are the only puppy involved this will be classified as a private consultation and training session.

If you wish to have a group then depending upon your home setup then it will depend upon how many visitors and how large a house you have to accommodate people however the parties should not exceed a maximum of 4 puppies.  If you choose to hold a small party for a group it is preferable to allow immediate family members, including children, to join in as it is important for them to also learn how to train the puppy.  If this is a problem then you may prefer to have a private consultation.

Why are the numbers restricted to 4?  Each owner will have questions and topics that they want to cover that will pertain to their own personal situation.  In the two hour party consultation we want to be able to make sure that each owner receives enough attention to work with their puppies on the things they need to know.

Is It Necessary To Hold A Party In A Private Residence?

It isn’t absolutely necessary to hold these parties in the home, however in order to teach specific home manners and obedience that is applicable to your lifestyle and training the puppy the rules of your household it will be more difficult in an open park area.  If there is a safe and secure yard, the puppies will be allowed to run free intermittently and have off leash play sessions.  This will not be possible in a park area.  Basic obedience, such as loose leash walking and puppy recalls, can be trained in the street so set time during the party can be allocated to walking down the street which will allow you to learn how to train your puppy to walk nicely on a loose leash.  It is also important to be able to get your puppy’s attention and be able to get your puppy to come when called.  This session can show you how to incorporate and practise this during your daily walk.

What Is The Price Of  A Puppy Manners Party?

The prices for Puppy Manners Parties will depend upon how many people and puppies attend the party.  If there are no other puppies then this will be priced as a private consultation.  Prices for Puppy Manners Parties are on application only.  Surcharges may apply if long distance travelling is involved.
